This series of TV commercials for Dell Technologies was a major undertaking for all departments at Framestore NY. Oscar winning director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech, Moulin Rouge, Cats) wanted everything shot ‘in-camera’ thus a HUGE amount of technical research and development took place. A real jet airliner engine, helicopter, and Ford Explorer were wrapped in a projection screen like material, Framestore coordinated all shot planning, shooting, vfx and design with the director. We then designed and animated all the graphics that were ultimately projected live, onset and filmed with the star Jeffrey Wright of Westworld fame. It was a massive technical feat, under tight deadlines, and with a perfectionist director, but the world class team at Framestore pulled it off. I lead concept design and animation of the projected ‘data/future graphics’, and coordinated with both the CG and composting leads at FSNY to work out all the technical details for the projection mapping aspect.
